In Matthew 10, Jesus
was preparing to send out his disciples to preach. As his disciples here on
earth, any advice to them also applies to us. As Jesus was laying out
instructions, He told them that they would be as “sheep among wolves”.
There is a distinct difference between the wolf and the
sheep. Wolves are violent animals. Not only are they viscous hunters for their
food, but they also fight and kill amongst themselves. Sheep are mild mannered
and trusting almost to a fault. They are calm and peaceful creatures. Jesus is
said to be “…The Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world.”
Jesus wanted His disciples to realize that though He was
sending them into a volatile situation, they were to be as calm and peaceful as
sheep. Through all of our difficult situations throughout the day, whether it
is a problem at home, work, or personally, we should be as calm and peaceful as
sheep.
